I get that MC is desperate to win. But it feels a bit cowardly that he could not overwhelm the guy alone. He even used external means, rather than beating the guy fairly.
(If I ever wrote a story. I will never make that sort of coward the MC. It just makes the victory feel hollow, if MC don't have any honor or true skill.)

Mc is not a genius. He always fought cowardly either by hiding his strength or using hidden weapons against same level enemies. But that's what I like about him.
The other guy is an extremely powerful master that seems to trump all other power known in this age. The MC clearly knows his limits, the Dark Heaven Master knows the MC's limits. The Dark Heaven Master does not blame others for ganging up on him, as we see when he tells all the other masters to fight him all at once, as he is unstoppable in the current era. It is not cowardly for the MC to use external help against this opponent because the Dark Heaven Master is just that powerful. If the Dark Heaven Master has access to cheat skills, the MC also needs to use his cheat skills (the connections with others he has made through his regression) to defeat such a character.
Narratively, it goes to show how powerful the threat the MC faces truly is, and brings weight to the story. If the MC could win with his strength alone, it would be boring and his connections he has created would be useless. The story emphasizes strategy and interpersonal alliances and connections, as well as the strength of the collective. This story embodies this theme with the collective (the MC and his allies) against an overpowered and frightening threat.
You seem to forget that MC isn't some Genius, Talented MC, but merely an ordinary guy that used everything he could to get to where he is in this life and even that wasn't enough to fight the Main Villain One-on-One.
What do you think? 😊
