You are definelity right, If they hadn't forced her none would have been so hard, that the poor boy's fate should not have been so
You are right and I understand your point. But I would say that Somin is also half responsible for the situation. She never really expressed or discussed important things with her husband. She wants to handle everything on her own and when it comes to crucial decision she does not consider her husband's feeling.
Their marriage lacked real, deep communication. She could have talked to her husband sooner about not wanting another child unless she publishes her research first, and I am sure he would have accepted since he was also not sure whether they should get a child the first time she asked him. This could have made things easy. also When she realized she got pregnant she should have informed Kyuwon about this and try to see what they could do.
Imagine finding out out of nowhere that your wife was pregnant and decided to get an abortion without telling you. And when you want to discuss things she still rejects and does not give the time to explain. See? lack of communication which led kyuwon to tell somin's mom about this and you know the rest of the story.
Honestly I was with Somin. They should have let her getting her abortion because this was her decision and she wanted to pursue her dreams. Why should we prevent her from achieving that because of an unborn baby. I know it hurts and life ain't easy but no matter the choice you make consequences will follow up. I cannot really blame Kyuwon. I really like the character and I know he has gone through a lot and he meant well. It is just a succession of unlucky events and how complex life and decisions we make impact our life.
Anyway the characters are very interesting and the author is doing well with his/her story. I hope he will get more recognition with his/her work

You explained everything way better than I could ever have! I cannot refute you because I completely agree with you, that's just how Somin is (and I really like her for that). I honestly didn't think much when Somin tried to get an abortion without telling Kyuwon, I supported it since she knew how he would have reacted. I understand actually discussings things with him is the better option, but if she had actually gotten away with it, it would have saved both of them a lot of trouble. For someone like Kyuwon, he'd be understanding but feel some guilt about the abortion, I don't think he would have talked to his mother-in-law, at least. Somin would be completely fine, though.

Yeah exactly. He may be against it at first but he would be understanding and support her as he done multiple times in the past. On the other hand I can understand why Somin did not want to inform him or anyone because she knew they would be hurt so if she was able to get away with this no one will know and she will be the only one to bear this secret. they will continue their life. But unfortunately life never make things easy and unexpected things happen. either way, the decision is tough
she didn't think that she'd get an unwanted preg, she thought she had it all undercontrol, that it a problem others only had to deal with (flash back to sol) and talking to her husband about it wasn't necessary because she was not willing to duscuss her decisions with him sadly, she is not used to letting others be part of her decissions, so rather than telling him and go through the hussle of convincing him or failing to abort, she'd rather do everything by herself.
keep in mind that this whole pregnancy is a proof she's not as perfect as she thinks of herself, something she has a hard time accepting.

as paradoxal as it seems, even thou somin is a narasisit it doesn't mean she doesn't have good problem solving mindset, in fact most of the time she is "right", she is bright indeed very intellegent on how she understand situations and deal with them, this fed her ego big deal and contributed in her narassistic features;
had she been empathic and not self centred she'd be a great wife, friend and mother, but she is not , she fails to see her self as ca normal human and as an equal to other people, she has a superiority complex she thinks she is inhertly better than other humans; and now the she is facing delemmas and problems like normal people her rersolve is shaken and for a person with her superiority complex there's no way she's aknowlage her own flows but rather shift the blame to something else: her son.-
you raised good points. Somin is very intelligent indeed, bright and is very good in decision making. throughout her life until now she always took decisions she thought was the best and in 100 percent cases it turned out to be the best. She was always right, she never made mistakes and this fed her narcissic behavior which makes her see others as incompetent, not capable of using basic sense.
for me she does not think she is better than a normal human being but she exults a mindset and behavior that reinforce her superiority complex. That is why she cannot comprehend human emotion like for example when her kyuwon was upset because she did not tell him she planned to travel to US and other examples like this. So when she was facing the harsh reality of life it was a turning point for her. She is experiencing for the first time what a normal person deal with, something she does not have control over, but her superiority complex does not let her reflect on herself for what happened so rather she would put the blame on to others because in her mind she is not like those people that are incompetent and cannot use basic sense.
Had she been more open to people, understanding and more human kinda of , i think she'd be a much better version of herself. anyway I really like your comment and this is what is fascinating with this manhwa.

waaaaah, i really enjoyed reading this!!! well what made me think she thinks of herself better than a normal human is that if i remember well she said it once to her daughter; something like : "we're not like those incompetent humans or maybe she said you're my prefect daughter…" so i thought : OH this person thinks she's a superior been.
i may be wrong though , i agree with your POV, i definetly want to see how her daughter will deal with her. This story keeps getting better every chapter. these last two chapters were so deep and interesting and I really liked the discussions centered around pregnancy. The author tried to make us think about the debate surrounding pregnancy and abortion and how it can affect individuals. It was well written and deep. This showed us that no matter the choice you make, consequences will follow up. If Somin had gotten her abortion, her relationship with her family and husband would have been broken but since I know her She would not care that much but it is interesting to have this perspective as viewers and put ourselves in characters' shoes. Honestly I felt bad for Somin, they should have let her getting the abortion and nothing of what happened later on would have occurred. it was a tough decision but this was the best decision for her. At the end of the day someone would be hurt no matter who. The husband is doomed i can already that

Yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised by this, it was really interesting. I was disappointed, disgusted, to see Somin's mother be so against it and even though Som made very valid arguments (like when she brought up her brother), that woman just threatened her. It's like being told not to talk back even though you're literally just engaging in the discussion, she didn't care at all.
It's terrifying to be denied the rights to your own body like that, the way the mother said "how could anyone in our family ever think of doing that!?" just goes to show she would have never understood Som's decision even if she had told her the moment she found out she was pregnant.
This manhwa has quickly grown to become one of my favorite thrillers, I'm so excited to see how the mother's arc ends.

Yeah I agree too. When she discussed with her mother she brought valid arguments. I was disappointed to see that her mother was not supportive of her and wanted to even cut ties. Like why? your daughter went far in her career and she could have become one of the most known researcher in her field. She has ambitions and you as a mother did not even try to understand her.
Somin is rational and she understand human behavior and how they react. That is why she was hesitant to talk about her abortion to anyone and it was completely understandable and her mother proved her point. I wished we could see the dad's reaction because I feel like Somin might be closer to him than her mother since he supported Somin most of the time with her career. But i am fine with that. it is what it is.
The story is just a masterpiece and I can't wait for the next chapter. this deserves more recognition and more people need to read it

i agree with you both but i think the greatest issue is that she didn't reach an agreement with her husband.. honestly it's a hard situation: the husband who only his wife can give him children wants to keep it, and the wife doesn't want the kid and never planned to have it. i think unless they talk it throu very well they shouldn't bring a third party…
but she was not willing to discuss it farther with him, and he was not giving up .. he knows his wife is creer oriented though, i think he should have seen this coming (remembring the way they had their 1st kid)
well it's a loss-win situation, one of the partys had to loose something: she looses her dream career or he looses his dream family.
their marriage was deprived from any meaningful communication, this was bound to happen, maybe for somin this is more or less a confortable marriage, but kyuwon married wrong, she is by no mean the woman with who he can build his dream familyComments are closed.

I may be a bad person for saying this, but if Sol had listened to Somin, things would be better. Somin wouldnt have to be dealing with an unwanted pregnancy forced upon her by her own family, Sol would be safe from her abusers and have her wife's support to find another career, and an innocent child wouldnt have had to suffer and die at the hands of his own mother.
I loved watching Kyuwon's mental health slowly deteriorate, as well as his feelings towards his wife change , but its clear he will be murdered soon. I will miss him.
